Florida: General James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Florida in winter! We stayed at our timeshare over the New Years holiday last year. Of course we took our bikes! The weather was perfect for cycling. The day we rode on a section of the James A. Van Fleet trail, the temperature was in the 70's and the sky was partly cloudy.

If you like hills, you won't find any on this trail. However; if your're looking for a good workout, or a slower, leisure ride this is a good trail for you. The foliage along the trail is definitely tropical. I really wouldn't recommend venturing off of the trail, and there are plenty of 'gator warning signs to remind you to keep it on the pavement.

If you vacation in Florida, and have a few hours available to ride, I would recommend finding a rail trail. The state seems to have developed a good trail system, which is a real benefit for the cycling tourist, who doesn't have time for a longer road trip!
