Cyclebration 101; How to eat a mett with chain grase on your fingers.

It's just my luck. I managed to avoid traveling to Troy, Ohio and saw the opportunity to ride with the Cincinnati Cycle Club group riding from Montgomery, Oh to Cyclebration in Newport, Ky. I set off early and met the group for a 9:30 departure from Montgomery. The weather looked threatening, but not severe and having been poured on more than once this year, the Brooks saddle was wrapped in plastic, and covered up. You cant get that English leather wet!!

I just had to have some mechanical issue, since it wasn't raining and no other events seemed destined to slow our ride. I began to hear some pops coming from my derailleur. I thought it may be just an alignment issue. Nope! The chain split at a traffic light next to Kenwood Mall. Thanks to the other riders with us and another rider who joined the group with a set of reading glasses in his seat bag, we were on the road again in probably half an hour.

I usually ride with a towel in my pocket along with a collection of tools in my over sized seat bag. It really came in handy to have something to wipe the grease on. Still, it's difficult to eat a mett with chain grease on your fingers. Even if most of the grease has been wiped off.

Thanks for a good day of riding to the Montgomery, Oh riders. Other riders may be starting to think I'm just cursed. But the stories are good anyway. Hitting groundhogs, getting stung in the eye, flats on remote trails in GA., swarms of mayflies, I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything!
